System Requirements

Recommended Video Hardware and Drivers

For best program performance the following video hardware is recommended.

  • 4 Port Video Capture Card from FG Engineering
  • or Hauppauge WinTV Go PCI capture board
The Video for Windows (VFW)  capture driver version: 3.11 for 2003,XP, 2000, NT and 2.4 for Me, 98, 95 are best.
(This board can be used to support up to 8 cameras with VSM)
  • ViewCast Osprey-100 Video Capture Card with it's VFW drivers
(This board can support up to 8 cameras with VSM)
  •  A  Logitech USB Video Camera
Use the most current video driver..
Video driver version 6.x works fine.
(Only one such camera can be used with VSM, not 8)
  • generic 4 port card example Pico 2000
  • Many More Compatible Cards click here e.g. ATI TV Wonder PCI, X10 USB
  • Other cameras, capture boards or drivers may vary in their degree of quality and compatibility with this software. If used they should be Video for Windows (VFW) compatible, and support RGB 32, RGB 24 or RGB 16 bits/pixel, and image size resolutions of  320x240 or 160x120 pixels. There is a universal video capture driver that works with many PCI based video capture cards that might be worth trying if you are having video driver problems.

Hauppauge and Logitech are good quality cameras and drivers, popular, widely available and are not expensive. Logitech USB cameras range in price from $29-$99 US - see www.logitech.com. Hauppauge WinTV Go PCI capture boards cost about $59 US. These are good for using with this software and attaining the end goal of  Video Monitoring.

Note: Multi-camera configurations are supported on video capture cards or video capture devices which have a RCA analog video input connector e.g. 4 Port Video Capture Card, WinTV Go PCI Video Capture Card. Multi-camera configurations are not support  on USB connectorized cameras which plug directly into a USB port e.g. Logitech cameras - in this case VSM software will work with the one USB camera, but cannot be expanded to more than one camera. If using the Hauppauge WinTV Go be sure to use the PCI type of card.
