Learn Remote User Interface

The following procedure is recommended to learn and implement the remote user interface to the Video Surveillance WebCam Software. Follow the subsequent examples in sequence in this Help Documentation.

(A) Check Your Anti-Virus Software

  • make sure anti-virus software does not interfere with launching the program or blocking ports.
  • firewall software is not closing your ports eg Windows XP firewall.
  • other things like User Account Control, Malware etc not stopping you from using your computer to the fullest. See notes.

(B) Learn on Same Computer First

Run the Remote User Interface on the same computer your running the Video Surveillance WebCam Software, before trying it from the Internet or through a router.

  1. see the Remote User Interface
  2. connect to the Video Surveillance WebCam Software with your web browser.
  3. Test or configure the video streaming.
  4. do Remote View Automatic Method
  5. do Remote View Manual Method
  6. log on, log off, Get Program Status.
  7. change program states, Stop, Monitor, Record, Stream
  8. do these steps 4,5,6,7 at least four times to learn.

(C) Try Over Internet

Now that you know what the Remote User Interface looks like and what proper operation of the interface looks like, now your ready to try remote access from the internet, and configure your network if necessary.

Best way to test your network is with another computer. Use one computer to dial the internet with an analog modem over the phone line, and come into your other computer which has the Video Surveillance WebCam Software running on it, which is connected to the internet with an ADSL or cable modem.

Check if your ISP is blocking port 80, if so change the Web Server Program to Listen on Port 90 instead.

Try to logon to the Video Surveillance WebCam Software with your web browser to verifying port 80 or port 90 are open. If you fail configure your network.

Put the Video Surveillance WebCam Software into Stream Mode, and use Manual Method for Remote View using Windows Media Player. Verify port 1048 or 8080 are open. If not configure your network.

(D) Configure Network

If tried over the internet and could not get the logon page and do remote viewing, then check your network, you may have to configure it. If using a router, configure your router by opening ports 80,90,1048,8080, and 8081 try above again until you succeed.

If you (B) Tested the Video Streaming, and Learned on Same Computer OK, you have verified the Video Surveillance WebCam Software software and remote user interface works fine, it then must be a networking configuration issue to solve. You know what success looks like, when you have configured your network right i.e. logging on with a web browser and seeing the video streaming.

(E) Track Your IP Address

When you have network configured right and can use the Remote User Interface, then find a way to track your computer's or router's ip address, so you can access it from anywhere over the Internet.
